The Fermion MEMS Ethanol (EtOH) Gas Detection Sensor uses micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology for compact, low-power ethanol gas detection. With a detection range of 1–500 ppm, it provides qualitative measurement of ethanol concentration via an analogue voltage output.

The MEMS design delivers a small footprint (13 × 13 × 2.5 mm), low power consumption (<20 mA), minimal heat generation, short preheating time, and fast response recovery. It operates at 3.3–5 V, making it compatible with Arduino and other common microcontrollers.

Note: This sensor provides qualitative measurements only (detecting presence and relative concentration). For quantitative measurements, a factory-calibrated electrochemical sensor is required.

Key Features

  • MEMS Technology – Compact, low power, fast response and recovery
  • 1–500 ppm Detection Range – Suitable for ethanol gas leak detection
  • Analogue Voltage Output – Simple integration with any ADC-equipped microcontroller
  • 3.3–5 V Operating Voltage – Arduino and Raspberry Pi compatible
  • Low Power – Operating current <20 mA
  • Long Lifespan – ≥5 years in air

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

ADC
An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
ppm
ppm means parts per million, a common way to express very small gas concentrations in air. For CO₂ sensors, the ppm range tells you what levels the sensor can measure, such as normal indoor air through to poorly ventilated spaces.
VOC
Volatile organic compounds are gases released from things like paints, cleaners, smoke, and some plastics. A VOC reading helps indicate indoor air quality, but it is usually an index or estimate rather than a direct identification of each chemical.
