##Introduction The Fermion: I2C Address Shifter is a compact module designed to simplify the process of changing the I2C addresses of sensors in a development system. This module allows developers to easily modify sensor addresses without complex software interventions or code modifications. By positioning the Fermion: I2C Address Shifter between a development board and an I2C sensor, the sensor's address can be altered via the module, ensuring that multiple devices with the same address can coexist on a single I2C bus. This is achieved through an intuitive hardware solution, which shifts the I2C address directly, ensuring seamless integration and preventing timing issues that may occur with traditional I2C multiplexers. The module operates within a voltage range of 2.25 to 5.5V and draws a minimal current of 2mA at 3.3V, making it suitable for various systems with different voltage requirements.Easy Address ConfigurationThe Fermion: I2C Address Shifter supports address modification via dip switches and optional soldering of resistors. By adjusting the onboard dip switches, users can select from four new addresses, and with additional soldering, they can extend the address pool by at least 20 more.Figure: Interfaces of Fermion: I2C Address ShifterPlug-and-Play Integration Fermion: I2C Address ShifterThe module’s compact design and plug-and-play functionality make it easy to add to any I2C-based system. No need for software code changes or external multiplexer components—developers can simply wire the Fermion: I2C Address Shifter module into their setup and immediately shift the I2C address of any connected sensor.Figure: Wiring Diagram of Fermion: I2C Address Shifter and Arduino UNOReliable and Simple to UseUnlike traditional multiplexers, which can introduce timing bugs or require intricate code management, the Fermion: I2C Address Shifter provides a hardware-based solution that works reliably without the need for additional coding efforts or risk of timing conflicts. This makes it an ideal choice for developers who seek simplicity and efficiency in managing I2C addresses. ##Applications Sensor arraysRobotic SystemsComplex sensor networks ##Specification Working voltage: 2.25~5.5V DCWorking current: 2mA@3.3VWorking temperature: 0~70℃PCB Dimension: 19 x 19mm ##Documents Product wikiI2C Address CalculateTutorialSchematicDatasheetPCB layoutHow to Resolve I2C Address Conflict ##ShippingList Fermion: I2C Address Shifterx1XH2.54-10pin Headerx1

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

I2C address
An I2C address is the number a device uses so a microcontroller can tell it apart from other devices on the same I2C bus. It matters because two devices with the same fixed address may conflict if used together.
multiplexer
A multiplexer (mux) is a chip or circuit that selects one of several input signals and routes it to a single shared output, with select lines choosing which input is connected; running the same idea in reverse, to send one input to a chosen output, gives a demultiplexer. Multiplexers let a single controller or line work with several signals or devices that would otherwise clash on a shared connection.
PCB
A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
