The Boson Starter Kit pairs DFRobot's modular Boson electronic blocks with the BBC micro:bit, giving students and beginners a hands-on introduction to coding and electronics. The kit includes eight sensor and actuator modules covering sound, light, and motion interaction.
Modules connect to the micro:bit via the included expansion board using foolproof 3-pin cables. The expansion board features an edge connector, six 3-pin sockets, a 3.5 mm headphone jack with volume control, and a USB power port for driving motors and servos. All modules are compatible with Microsoft MakeCode and the Python Editor.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- Boson
- Boson is a modular electronics system that uses plug-in cables and modules to connect sensors, buttons, displays, and controllers without much wiring. If a cable is marked for Boson, it is intended to fit that connector style and pin arrangement.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
- servo
- A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
