An adorable acorn-shaped motion sensor designed to work with Bearables wearable LED badges. When you move or tilt the acorn, the connected badge's LEDs light up — bringing your wearable creation to life with simple, delightful interactivity.

Part of the woodland-themed Bearables range, this sensor connects to any Bearables badge using conductive thread. It's designed for kids aged 8+ and grown-up kids alike, making it a fantastic introduction to wearable electronics and e-textiles.

Key Features

  • Tilt Switch Motion Sensor – Detects movement to trigger LED animations on your badge
  • Two Sewable Hooks – Connect easily to any Bearables badge with conductive thread
  • Simple Connection – Works in either orientation; just connect hook-to-hook with conductive thread
  • Compact Size – Just 25 × 18 × 4mm, small enough to embed in clothing or accessories
  • No Soldering Required – Sew it on and you're ready to go

How It Works

Connect one hook on the acorn sensor to one hook on your Bearables badge using conductive thread, then repeat for the second pair of hooks. It doesn't matter which way round they're connected. Once attached, press and hold the badge's multi-function button to enter trigger mode — now every tilt or shake of the acorn will light up your badge LEDs.

Ideal For

  • Kids aged 8+ learning about wearable electronics
  • E-textile and sewable electronics projects
  • Interactive costumes and accessories
  • STEM education and craft activities

Package Contents

  • 1× Acorn Motion Sensor
  • 1× Sticker Sheet
Note: Bearables badges and sensors are not waterproof or washable. Ensure the two pieces of conductive thread do not touch each other (especially when fabric is creased or folded), as this may prevent the sensor from working correctly. A dab of clear nail varnish on the thread around each hook can help improve connection reliability.
Warning: Contains small parts. Not suitable for children 3 years or younger. This is not a toy.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

conductive thread
Thread made with metal or other conductive fibres so it can carry electricity while being sewn into fabric. It matters for wearable and textile projects because it can replace wire, but it has more resistance than normal hookup wire.
e-textiles
Electronic textiles are fabrics or clothing that include electrical parts such as conductive thread, sensors, LEDs, or small controllers. This matters because parts for e-textiles need to survive bending, sewing, and sometimes washing.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
Matter
A smart home connectivity standard designed to let devices work across different ecosystems. It matters if you want a project to integrate more easily with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, or other Matter-compatible systems.
Thread
A low-power wireless mesh networking standard designed for smart home and IoT devices. It matters because Thread devices can relay messages through each other, helping build reliable networks for sensors and controllers.
