The automation:bit is a micro:bit expansion board for controlling and monitoring low-voltage systems up to 24 V. It features analogue and digital inputs, sinking outputs, and a relay — all accessible via 3.5 mm screw terminals. No soldering required.

Program it using the block-based Microsoft MakeCode editor with the automation:bit library. Use micro:bit's buttons, LED matrix light sensing, or radio function with a second micro:bit as a remote control.

Key Features

  • 24 V Relay – 1× relay with NC and NO terminals, rated at 2 A
  • ADC Channels – Analogue inputs with 0–24 V range
  • 3× Buffered Inputs – 24 V tolerant digital inputs
  • 3× Sinking Outputs – 24 V tolerant digital outputs
  • 3.5 mm Screw Terminals – Secure, solderless wiring connections
  • Fully Assembled – Ready to use, no soldering required
  • MakeCode Support – Block-based programming via Microsoft MakeCode
Warning: Do not use with voltages greater than 24 V. Not suitable for mains voltage applications.

Ideal For

  • Home automation with micro:bit
  • Low-voltage monitoring and control projects
  • Learning about relays, inputs, and outputs
  • STEM education and classroom automation

Package Contents

  • 1× automation:bit board (fully assembled)

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

ADC
An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
