This anemometer measures wind speed using rotating cups that turn an enclosed magnet. On each rotation, the magnet closes a reed switch, producing a simple pulse output that can be counted by your electronics.
The output is available on the two inner conductors of the RJ11 connector, pins 2 and 3. Connect it to a digital counter or to interrupt-capable pins on a microcontroller to measure switch closures over time.
To convert the pulse rate into wind speed, use the supplied conversion of 1 switch closure per second equals 1.492 mph, or 2.4 km/h.
This is the same anemometer used with the SparkFun Weather Meter Kit, making it suitable for weather station builds, environmental monitoring and maker projects.
