The Adafruit ISM330DHCX + LIS3MDL FeatherWing combines two precision ST sensors to deliver 9 degrees of freedom — accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer — in the Feather form factor. Stack it onto any Feather board for industrial-quality motion sensing with AHRS orientation capability.
The ISM330DHCX provides a synchronised accelerometer and gyroscope on a single die with an extended ±4000°/s gyro range and industrial temperature rating (−40°C to +105°C). The LIS3MDL adds a 3-axis magnetometer for compass heading and orientation fusion. Both sensors communicate over the shared I2C bus and include STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors for solderless wiring.
Key Features
- ISM330DHCX Accelerometer – ±2/±4/±8/±16 g at 1.6 Hz to 6.7 kHz
- ISM330DHCX Gyroscope – ±125/±250/±500/±1000/±2000/±4000°/s at 12.5 Hz to 6.7 kHz
- LIS3MDL Magnetometer – 3-axis magnetic field sensing for compass heading
- Industrial Temperature Range – −40°C to +105°C with calibration for stable accuracy
- Smart Features – Tap detection, activity detection, pedometer, finite state machine, ML core
- STEMMA QT / Qwiic Connectors – Solderless I2C connection with daisy-chain support
- Feather Form Factor – Stacks onto any Feather board; four mounting holes
- Configurable I2C Addresses – Solder jumpers allow two boards on one bus

Resources
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- FeatherWing
- A FeatherWing is an add-on board made to plug into the Feather microcontroller board layout. Knowing a product is a FeatherWing helps you check whether it will physically and electrically fit your Feather-style mainboard.
- Gyroscope
- A gyroscope measures rotation, such as how fast a board is turning around its X, Y, and Z axes. This matters for projects like gesture controls, balancing robots, and motion tracking where tilt or rotation changes need to be detected.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- magnetometer
- A sensor that measures magnetic fields, often used to work out compass direction. It matters because nearby magnets, motors, or metal objects can affect readings and may require calibration.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- STEMMA
- A plug-and-cable connection system used on some maker electronics boards to make wiring simpler. If a product uses STEMMA, you need the matching cable or connector type to plug it in without soldering.
- STEMMA QT
- A small plug-in connector system for I2C boards that lets you connect compatible sensors and controllers without soldering. It matters because it can make wiring faster and less error-prone, especially when adding several small modules to a project.
