The Adafruit INA219 FeatherWing is a high-side current and voltage sensor that stacks onto any Feather development board. Using the INA219B chip over I2C, it measures both DC current draw and bus voltage with 1% precision — replacing the need for two separate multimeters in your power-monitoring setup.

Unlike low-side current sensors that disrupt ground references, the INA219 measures on the high side and handles up to +26V DC, even when powered from the Feather's 3.3V rail. It's ideal for monitoring battery life, solar panel output, or any DC power system.

Key Features

  • High-Side Current Sensing – Measures current without disrupting ground references, up to +26V DC
  • ±3.2A Measurement Range – 0.1Ω 1% sense resistor with 0.8 mA resolution at full range
  • ±400 mA Low-Range Mode – Internal gain set to ÷8 for 0.1 mA resolution
  • Voltage Monitoring – Reports high-side bus voltage for battery and solar tracking
  • I2C Interface – Simple two-wire connection; configurable address supports up to 4 Wings per Feather
  • 12-bit ADC – Onboard analogue-to-digital converter for precise measurements
  • Feather Form Factor – Stacks directly onto any Feather board
  • Customisable Range – Replace the 0.1Ω sense resistor with your own (e.g., 0.01Ω for up to ±32A at 8 mA resolution)

Ideal For

  • Battery life monitoring and power profiling
  • Solar panel current and voltage tracking
  • Embedded system power consumption analysis
  • Any Feather project requiring precision DC power measurement

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

ADC
An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
FeatherWing
A FeatherWing is an add-on board made to plug into the Feather microcontroller board layout. Knowing a product is a FeatherWing helps you check whether it will physically and electrically fit your Feather-style mainboard.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
