The Adafruit HTU31 is a third-generation I²C temperature and humidity sensor from TE, offering improved accuracy and useful extras over its predecessor, the HTU21D. With typical humidity accuracy of ±2% (at 20–100% RH, 0–70°C) and temperature accuracy of ±0.2°C (0–100°C), it delivers reliable environmental readings for a wide range of projects.

The breakout comes in the STEMMA QT form factor with Qwiic-compatible I²C connectors on both sides for solderless daisy-chaining. On-board voltage regulation and level shifting support both 3.3V and 5V systems. An address-select pin allows two sensors on one I²C bus, and a thermal-isolation cutout minimises the effect of nearby circuitry on readings.

Key Features

  • ±2% Typical Humidity Accuracy – At 20–100% RH, 0–70°C operating range
  • ±0.2°C Typical Temperature Accuracy – Over 0 to 100°C range
  • I²C Interface with CRC Data Verification – More confident data reads compared to other I²C sensors
  • On-Board Heater – Controllable heater to evaporate condensation on the sensing element
  • Hardware Reset Pin – Reliable sensor reset without power cycling
  • Address-Select Pin – Run two HTU31 sensors on one I²C bus
  • Thermal-Isolation Cutout – Reduces heat interference from nearby components
  • STEMMA QT / Qwiic Connectors – Solderless I²C connection
  • 3.3V and 5V Compatible – On-board voltage regulation and level shifting

Ideal For

  • Precision environmental monitoring
  • Indoor climate and HVAC systems
  • Multi-sensor networks with two sensors per I²C bus
  • Condensation-prone environments (using the built-in heater)

Package Contents

  • 1× Adafruit HTU31 Breakout Board – Assembled and tested with STEMMA QT connectors
  • 1× Header strip (unsoldered)
Note: STEMMA QT / Qwiic cable not included. Header strip requires light soldering if using with a breadboard. Temperature readings will not be accurate while the on-board heater is active.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
STEMMA
A plug-and-cable connection system used on some maker electronics boards to make wiring simpler. If a product uses STEMMA, you need the matching cable or connector type to plug it in without soldering.
STEMMA QT
A small plug-in connector system for I2C boards that lets you connect compatible sensors and controllers without soldering. It matters because it can make wiring faster and less error-prone, especially when adding several small modules to a project.
