Zener diodes are a handy little companion for all sorts of jobs. They are rated with a fixed breakdown (avalanche) voltage above which, unlike normal diodes, they'll allow reverse current flow.
But how could that be useful I hear you ask?
- Protecting micro-controller pins from excess voltage
- Providing a reference voltage
- Clamping signal voltages
We stock both 3V3 and 5V Zener diodes as these are the voltages most Raspberry Pi and Arduino projects will run at.
- Power: 1.3W
- Tolerance: ±5%

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- Tolerance
- Tolerance tells you how far the real resistance value may be from the printed value. A 1% resistor is useful when a circuit needs more predictable behaviour than a looser 5% or 10% part.
