The FPM-T is a high-precision GNSS receiver in SparkFun’s SparkPNT FP family, built around the modular Flex System. This model is supplied fully assembled with the Septentrio mosaic-X5 module installed, ready for demanding positioning work.
An integrated IMU provides tilt compensation, while the receiver is designed for mission-critical GNSS use with interference protection. The unit is also made to be repairable and user-upgradeable, with open-source firmware and a module that can be swapped using a Phillips head screwdriver.
SparkFun provides supporting documentation including the mosaic-X5 datasheet, RTK Everywhere product manual, a PointPerfect subscription registration resource, and a GitHub firmware repository.
Features:
- Capable of L1/L2/L5 reception.
- AIM+ Interference Mitigation.
- MFi certified, ensuring compatibility with iOS devices.
- Enclosed high-powered 1W LoRa radio.
- IP67 rated cast-aluminium housing with a reinforced dome.
- Affordable and competitive price point when compared to similar devices.
- The mosaic-X5 is capable of 6mm horizontal accuracy when receiving RTK corrections.
A strong choice for survey, mapping, robotics, agriculture and other applications that need precise GNSS positioning with a serviceable hardware platform.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GNSS
- GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, an umbrella term for satellite positioning networks such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. Receivers use these satellites to determine position, and high-precision units can output a steady stream of serial position data.
- IMU
- An IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) combines motion sensors, typically an accelerometer and gyroscope and sometimes a magnetometer, to measure movement and orientation. It can sense motion, tilt, vibration, rotation, and changes in direction, which is useful for tasks such as navigation, stabilisation, gesture detection, and asset tracking.
- IP67
- An ingress protection rating meaning the enclosure is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water under specified test conditions. This matters when choosing a sensor for outdoor, wet, or wash-down environments.
- L5
- A modern GNSS signal band used by several satellite systems for more accurate and robust positioning. Dual-band receivers that include L5 can often perform better than single-band receivers, especially for RTK and areas with reflected signals.
- LoRa
- LoRa is a long-range, low-power wireless radio technology often used for telemetry, remote sensors and other links that send small amounts of data over long distances. It is distinct from Bluetooth and WiFi, so sharing a connector or pinout with LoRa hardware does not mean a device actually uses LoRa.
- RTK
- Real-Time Kinematic positioning is a GNSS technique that uses correction data from a base station to greatly improve location accuracy. It matters if you need centimetre-level positioning for robotics, mapping, surveying, or tracking rather than ordinary metre-level GPS accuracy.
