The SparkFun RV-8803 Real Time Clock Module is a Qwiic-enabled breakout for the RV-8803 RTC, featuring a factory-calibrated temperature-compensated crystal for extremely precise timekeeping. It tracks hundredths of seconds, seconds, minutes, hours, date, month, year, and weekday, with multiple alarm and interrupt settings.

The module connects via a Qwiic connector for solderless I²C hookup, with 0.1" header pins also broken out for breadboard use. Its wide operating temperature range makes it well suited for field and harsh-environment applications.

Key Features

  • RV-8803 RTC – Temperature-compensated crystal, factory calibrated
  • High Precision – User-programmable timing offset for fine tuning
  • Time Stamp Event Input – Record the time of external events
  • Low Power Consumption – Ideal for battery-backed applications
  • Wide Temperature Range – −40 °C to +105 °C
  • Qwiic Connector – Solderless I²C connection (4-pin JST, 1 mm pitch)
  • Breadboard Friendly – 0.1" header pins also broken out
  • Improved I²C Interface – No command sequencing required (unlike RV-1805)

Ideal For

  • Data logging with accurate timestamps
  • Scheduled events and alarms
  • Battery-backed timekeeping
  • Field and outdoor applications

Package Contents

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
RTC
A Real-Time Clock keeps track of time even when the main processor is asleep or powered down, usually with a small backup battery. It matters for data logging and tracking projects that need accurate timestamps.
