The SparkFun Qwiic Shield for Teensy adds four Qwiic (I2C) connectors to your Teensy board, providing quick access to the SparkFun Qwiic ecosystem of sensors, actuators, and displays. Sized to fit the Teensy 4.0, Teensy 3.2, and Teensy LC footprints.

The shield connects GND, 3.3V, SDA, and SCL from your Teensy to two horizontal and two vertical Qwiic connectors. Qwiic devices can be daisy-chained together, so you can connect as many as you need (provided they have different I2C addresses). A "PROG" button on the shield mirrors the Teensy's programming button for convenient access.

Key Features

  • 4 Qwiic Connectors – 2 horizontal and 2 vertical JST connectors
  • Teensy Compatible – Fits Teensy 4.0, Teensy 3.2, and Teensy LC
  • Daisy Chainable – Connect multiple Qwiic devices in series
  • PROG Button – On-shield programming button (parallel with Teensy's)
  • Header Kit Included – Soldering required for assembly
Note: Soldering is required. Match the markings on the Qwiic Shield to the appropriate pins on your Teensy to avoid damaging your boards.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
Shield
An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
