The SparkFun HMC6343 Breakout provides easy access to a fully integrated electronic compass module capable of computing heading direction accurate to within a couple of degrees. It combines 3-axis magneto-resistive sensors and 3-axis MEMS accelerometers with on-board tilt compensation and magnetic distortion calibration.

All you need is a 3.3 V supply and I²C connections to your microcontroller. The HMC6343 computes heading, pitch, and roll at up to 5 Hz (every 200 ms), with all processing handled by its internal microprocessor and firmware algorithms.

Key Features

  • Tilt-Compensated Compass – Accurate heading output within a couple of degrees, even when tilted
  • 3-Axis Magnetometer + Accelerometer – Magneto-resistive sensors and MEMS accelerometers in a single package
  • On-Board Processing – Internal microprocessor computes heading, pitch, and roll
  • I²C Interface – Simple two-wire connection for commands and data
  • EEPROM Memory – Stores calibration and configuration data
  • 5 Hz Update Rate – Heading computed every 200 ms
