If you’re looking to add a USB-C connector to your wearable tech project, check out our sewable connectors! This USB Type-C connector is mounted horizontally on a flexible, sewable base, with red and black power wires extending from the bottom for easy integration.
Encased in a soft rubber housing, the connector can be sewn onto fabric by hand or machine, making it perfect for wearable applications. Simply stitch it in place and connect the power wires—red for positive (power) and black for negative (ground). For non-fabric projects, you can also secure it with glue, epoxy, or staples on a flat surface.
Important: Like many USB-C adapters, the CC lines are not connected, meaning it won’t support USB Power Delivery (PD) negotiation. If you’re using this for charging, ensure your power adapter defaults to a 5V output when CC lines are not detected. Some devices, particularly Macs, may require CC connections to function properly.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- USB Power Delivery (PD)
- USB Power Delivery is a USB-C charging standard that lets a power supply and device negotiate higher voltages and power levels. If a board requires PD input, you need a compatible USB-C PD power adapter and cable, not just any USB-C charger.
- USB Type-C
- A reversible USB connector used for power and data on many modern devices. On this kit it indicates an alternate 5V power input, which may be useful for setup or charging without the solar panel.
- USB-C
- A modern reversible USB connector used for power and data connections. On this product it matters because it can connect directly to a computer as well as to a microcontroller project.
