This compact carrier board from Pololu makes it easy to integrate a Sharp GP2Y0D815Z0F, GP2Y0D810Z0F, or GP2Y0D805Z0F digital distance sensor into your project. It provides all the required external components, an on-board LED for visual feedback of the output state, and a clean 3-pin interface on 2.54 mm (0.1″) pitch headers.
The Sharp GP2Y0D8x5Z0F family are infrared digital distance sensors that output a simple high/low signal when an object is detected within their range. This carrier board handles the necessary bypass capacitors and pull-up resistor so you can connect directly to a microcontroller with minimal wiring.
Key Features
- Multi-Sensor Compatible – Works with GP2Y0D815Z0F (15 cm), GP2Y0D810Z0F (10 cm), and GP2Y0D805Z0F (5 cm) sensors
- On-Board LED – Visual indicator shows the sensor's digital output state
- Required Components Included – Bypass capacitors and pull-up resistor are pre-populated on the board
- Simple 3-Pin Interface – VIN, GND, and OUT on 2.54 mm (0.1″) pitch for easy breadboard or header connections
- Compact Design – Tiny footprint keeps your project neat
Ideal For
- Proximity detection and object sensing
- Robotics obstacle avoidance
- Automated triggering systems
- Edge detection on line-following robots

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GND
- GND is the ground or reference connection (0 V) for a circuit. When connecting two devices together, their grounds must be joined so both agree on what counts as a low or high signal.
- Headers
- Rows of connector contacts on a fixed pitch (commonly 2.54 mm) used to link a board to a breadboard, jumper wires, or another board. They come as male pin headers and female socket headers; when a module ships with pre-soldered headers it can be used straight away, whereas bare pads require soldering the pins yourself.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
