The MiniQ 4WD Cross Country is a compact, fully assembled Arduino-compatible mobile robot designed for education and learning. Built around an ATmega32U4 (Arduino Leonardo) controller, it features 4-wheel drive with higher ground clearance (25 mm) for improved off-road capability on uneven terrain.
The robot integrates WS2812 RGB LEDs, infrared transmitters and receiver for obstacle detection, light sensors, a buzzer, and soft-touch buttons. It comes with an IR remote control and can be programmed via Micro-USB using the Arduino IDE. Eight beginner-friendly lessons are available for free download, covering topics from basic buzzer control to obstacle avoidance and encoder use.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- encoder
- A device attached to a motor or shaft that reports movement, such as rotation steps or position. In a pump system, an encoder can help measure or control how much the motor has turned, which affects how repeatable the watering amount can be.
- IDE
- Short for Integrated Development Environment, a program used to write, run and manage code. It matters because some learners prefer a traditional coding workspace instead of a guided notebook-style lesson.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
