The ESP-32-based M5Stick-C is a wee, super portable, open-source IoT development board, like a fun-sized version of the M5Stack. Jam-packed with a Wi-Fi & Bluetooth powered ESP32, USB interface, Li-Poly battery and charge circuitry, 0.96" color TFT display, various sensors (IR transmitter, microphone, 6-DoF IMU sensor) all integrated inside, buttons, and more! You can plug Grove sensors into one end, or use the 0.1" header sockets on the other, to connect additional sensors or actuators. It's perfect for making ultra-small IoT projects or wearables.
M5Stick-C is one of the core devices in the M5Stack product series. It's compatible with many of the modules and add-ons in that ecosystem, which opens up much potential in the developing IoT landscape (or perhaps we should say...cloudscape?)

Revision History:
- As of March 6, 2024 - The M5StickC is now M5StickC PLUS powered by ESP32-PICO-D4 with Wi-Fi. Additional improvements from the regular StickC include a buzzer, a bigger screen (1.14", 135 x 240 resolution LCD screen), and a more stable hardware design. This revision increases the display area by 18.7%, and the battery capacity from 95mAh to 120mAh.

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- ESP32
- ESP32 is a family of low-cost microcontroller chips and modules from Espressif with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. They support programmable firmware and over-the-air updates, and are commonly programmed with toolchains such as the Arduino core and ESP-IDF.
- Grove
- Grove is a standardised 4-pin plug-in connector system for sensors and modules that avoids soldering and jumper wires, with different cable types carrying I2C, UART, analogue or digital signals. When a product is Grove-compatible it can be quicker to connect supported modules, provided the connector type, signal and voltage all match.
- IMU
- An IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) combines motion sensors, typically an accelerometer and gyroscope and sometimes a magnetometer, to measure movement and orientation. It can sense motion, tilt, vibration, rotation, and changes in direction, which is useful for tasks such as navigation, stabilisation, gesture detection, and asset tracking.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- LCD
- LCD stands for liquid crystal display, a screen technology that uses a backlight and liquid crystals to show images or text. It matters because LCD modules usually need a display driver and enough controller pins or a bus interface to send image data.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- TFT
- A thin-film transistor display is a common type of colour LCD used for graphics screens. Knowing a product is for TFTs helps you check that the driver board matches the display’s connector, resolution, backlight, and signalling method.
- USB-C
- USB-C is a small, reversible USB connector that can carry power, data and, on some devices, video over a single cable. The same connector can range from charging only to high-speed data, so the functions a given port actually supports vary.
