The MAN1216Q50 is the locking version of SparkFun’s multi-band GNSS helical antenna, designed for high-precision L1/L2/L5 reception in compact equipment mounts. It adds a specialised three-screw flange at the base so the antenna can be permanently installed while still connecting via any SMA cable.
The locking flange is useful in high-vibration applications such as UAVs, autonomous agricultural rovers and automotive equipment, where a standard threaded SMA connection may loosen over time. The extra mounting points help secure the antenna to the enclosure and reduce stress on the SMA connector.
Internally, the antenna uses a Quadrifilar Helix structure for strong gain and wide-angle circular polarisation, helping with reception from low-elevation satellites even when the antenna is tilted or manoeuvring. It covers GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and L-Band signals.
This antenna can be used with an L1-only receiver, but to get the full benefit you will need a receiver capable of L1/L2 or L1/L2/L5 reception.
Features:
- Locking flange: Three-screw base for permanent mounting.
- Security: The three screw points physically secure the antenna to the case, preventing it from loosening under vibration or movement.
- Durability: The additional mount points transfer horizontal torsion and physical shock away from the sensitive SMA connector and into the stronger surrounding chassis materials.
- Multi-band GNSS: Supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and L-Band coverage.
- Quadrifilar Helix: Provides excellent gain and wide-angle circular polarisation.
- Low-profile design: Maintains a lower profile than many other helical options.
- SMA compatible: Can be used with any SMA cable.

A compact choice for GNSS projects where multi-band reception and a mechanically secure antenna mount are both important.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- B2a
- A BeiDou satellite signal used by newer dual-band GNSS receivers. Support for B2a can improve accuracy and reliability when combined with other GNSS bands.
- E1
- A Galileo satellite signal band used for standard positioning. Knowing which signal bands are supported helps you judge compatibility and expected performance of a GNSS receiver.
- E5a
- A Galileo satellite signal band used for higher-performance positioning services. Support for E5a can help dual-band GNSS receivers improve accuracy and reduce errors from atmospheric delay.
- Galileo
- Europe’s satellite navigation system. Galileo support can improve satellite availability and accuracy, especially when combined with GPS and other constellations.
- GLONASS
- Russia’s satellite navigation system. A receiver that can also use GLONASS has more satellites to choose from, which can improve positioning reliability when the sky view is partly blocked.
- GNSS
- GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, covering positioning systems such as GPS and similar satellite networks. It matters here because high-precision GNSS modules can output lots of serial position data that this product can send wirelessly to a computer or phone.
- GPS
- The US satellite navigation system used by GNSS receivers to calculate position and time. Support for GPS is important because it is widely available and often used together with other constellations for more reliable positioning.
- IP67
- An ingress protection rating meaning the enclosure is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water under specified test conditions. This matters when choosing a sensor for outdoor, wet, or wash-down environments.
- L5
- A modern GNSS signal band used by several satellite systems for more accurate and robust positioning. Dual-band receivers that include L5 can often perform better than single-band receivers, especially for RTK and areas with reflected signals.
- SMA
- A threaded coaxial connector commonly used for antennas. It matters because you need antennas with matching SMA connectors, or suitable adapters, for the LTE and GNSS antenna ports.
