Enter the world of e-textiles and wearables with custom reusable parts that allow you to make and remake as many times as you want!
Are you just learning how to sew and want to learn a bit of basic electronics too? Do you have basic sewing skills and want to experiment with adding lights to your projects? Then this is the set for you!
Each set includes:
- 2 coincell batteries
- 1 Teknikio batteryboard
- 2 Teknikio color-changeable LEDboards
- 1 felt pack
- 1 spool of conductive thread
- 4 fabric snaps
- 1 sewing needle
Skills: sewing, circuits, fashion design
Teknikio make a range of fun and beautiful sewables (or stickables - you can use them in origami/papercraft projects too), that are designed with children and education in mind, but they suit explorers, inventors, and curious minds of all ages: 8 to 108!
They've also put together a couple of fab guides on sewables and origami to teach you the basics and give you some project ideas.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- conductive thread
- Thread made with metal or other conductive fibres so it can carry electricity while being sewn into fabric. It matters for wearable and textile projects because it can replace wire, but it has more resistance than normal hookup wire.
- e-textiles
- Electronic textiles are fabrics or clothing that include electrical parts such as conductive thread, sensors, LEDs, or small controllers. This matters because parts for e-textiles need to survive bending, sewing, and sometimes washing.
