A solder-tail DB9 male connector for serial communication interfaces including RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485. This is one of the most widely used connectors for serial data links in industrial, embedded, and legacy computing applications.

Key Features

  • DB9 Male (DE-9) – Standard 9-pin D-sub connector
  • Solder-Tail Termination – Solder cup contacts for custom cable assembly
  • Multi-Protocol – Compatible with RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 serial interfaces

RS-232 Cable Length Guidelines

Maximum RS-232 cable length depends on baud rate, cable capacitance, and ambient noise. The following are general guidelines:

  • 19 200 baud – Up to 15 m (50 ft)
  • 9 600 baud – Up to 150 m (500 ft)
  • 4 800 baud – Up to 300 m (1 000 ft)

Ideal For

  • Custom RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 cable assemblies
  • Industrial serial communication links
  • Embedded systems and microcontroller UART connections
  • Legacy equipment interfacing

Package Contents

  • 1× DB9 Male Connector

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

baud
Baud is the signalling rate of a serial connection, often used as the speed setting for UART communication. Matching the baud rate matters because both connected devices must use the same setting for readable data.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
RS-232
An older serial communication standard that uses higher signal voltages than modern microcontroller logic pins. If you are connecting this breakout to a microcontroller, you may need an RS-232 interface or level converter rather than wiring it directly.
UART
UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
