The Boldport Buggy is a charming soldering kit designed by Saar Drimer of Boldport, originally created as a badge for the hardwear.io hardware security conference in The Hague. With its posable resistor legs, flickering LED eyes, and bendable antennae, the finished bug has plenty of personality.
This complete kit version features an updated circuit board, six candle-flicker LEDs in two sizes, and all the components you need — including a battery. No prior electronics knowledge is required, just basic soldering skills and standard tools (soldering iron, solder, and flush wire cutters). Full-colour printed assembly instructions are included.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
