The Adafruit STEMMA Audio Amp is a compact mono Class D amplifier based on the PAM8302 chip, delivering up to 2.5W into 4 Ω speakers from a 2.0–5.5V DC supply. With over 90% efficiency at half a watt into 8 Ω, it's ideal for portable and battery-powered audio projects.

This plug-and-play STEMMA version requires no soldering — audio input connects via a JST-PH 3-pin connector. The output is bridge-tied and drives speakers directly through a filterless design with ferrite bead and capacitor filtering. A built-in trim pot lets you adjust volume down from the default 24 dB gain.

Key Features

  • PAM8302 Class D Amplifier – 2.5W at 4 Ω or 1.5W at 8 Ω (10% THD, 5.5V supply)
  • Wide Voltage Range – 2.0–5.5V DC operation
  • High Efficiency – Over 90% at 0.5W into 8 Ω
  • Volume Trim Pot – Adjustable from default 24 dB gain
  • Thermal + Overcurrent Protection – Built-in safety features
  • Low Quiescent Current – 4 mA active, 0.5 mA shutdown
  • 50 dB PSRR – At 1 kHz for clean audio
  • JST-PH Audio Input – No-solder STEMMA connection (ground-referenced, not differential)
  • Filterless Design – Ferrite bead + capacitors on output

Ideal For

  • Battery-powered audio projects
  • Portable speakers and sound effects
  • Interactive exhibits and installations
  • Wearable audio devices

Package Contents

  • 1× STEMMA Audio Amp breakout board (PAM8302)
  • 1× Header strip
  • 1× 3.5 mm screw terminal block for speaker connection
Note: Speaker not included — use any 4 Ω or greater impedance speaker. The output is bridge-tied and must connect directly to a speaker, not to another amplifier. Terminal block colour may vary (blue or black).

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
pH
A measure of how acidic or alkaline a liquid is, on a scale where 7 is neutral. For a water monitoring kit, pH tells you about water chemistry and whether the included probe matches the range and accuracy your project needs.
STEMMA
A plug-and-cable connection system used on some maker electronics boards to make wiring simpler. If a product uses STEMMA, you need the matching cable or connector type to plug it in without soldering.
Terminal block
A connector used to join wires together in a neat, removable, or serviceable way. For this product, it helps split one power input into several outputs without soldering.
