This compact 2208 three-phase brushless DC motor combines a 12V BLDC motor with an integrated AS5600 magnetic encoder, making it a practical choice for closed-loop motor control and FOC experiments. It provides 300g.cm of torque and 12-bit position feedback for smooth, low-noise motion in projects such as camera gimbals, balancing robots and small robotic joints.

The encoder can output over I2C, PWM or analogue, so it can be used with common microcontroller platforms including Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi. Pair it with a suitable BLDC driver, such as the SimpleFOC Mini (DRI0058), and the SimpleFOC open-source library to develop and test Field-Oriented Control algorithms.

The motor is built with a precision CNC-machined housing, NdFeB magnetic outer rotor, oxygen-free copper stator windings and a hollow-shaft design. The package includes the motor with encoder, an MX1.25-4P to DuPont cable and a 3-pin motor cable. UVW connection wires may be supplied as three-colour or black wires; the star-configured windings are three-phase symmetric, so there is no required connection order.

Features:

  • Integrated high-precision magnetic encoder: Built-in AS5600 magnetic encoder for real-time positional feedback.
  • 12-bit positional feedback: Provides high-resolution feedback with 0.087° accuracy.
  • Flexible encoder outputs: Supports I2C, PWM and analogue outputs.
  • Optimised for Field-Oriented Control (FOC): Supports smooth, ripple-free torque with minimal noise and vibration when used with FOC control.
  • Quality construction and compact design: Precision CNC-machined housing, strong NdFeB magnetic outer rotor and hollow-shaft design.
  • Oxygen-free copper windings: Stator windings use oxygen-free copper with rotor dynamic balancing for stable operation.
  • Broad compatibility: Compatible with Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi development platforms.
  • SimpleFOC development: Can be paired with the SimpleFOC open-source library and a suitable driver such as SimpleFOC Mini (DRI0058).

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

BLDC
BLDC stands for brushless DC motor, a motor type that uses electronic switching instead of brushes to make it spin. It matters because BLDC motors need a suitable driver and control method, especially when you want smooth low-speed movement or precise positioning.
encoder
A device attached to a motor or shaft that reports movement, such as rotation steps or position. In a pump system, an encoder can help measure or control how much the motor has turned, which affects how repeatable the watering amount can be.
ESP32
ESP32 is a family of microcontroller modules with built-in wireless features such as Bluetooth and WiFi. Knowing this product uses an ESP32-based module helps explain how it provides wireless serial communication and firmware update features.
Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
Field-Oriented Control is a motor-control method that carefully controls the magnetic fields inside a brushless motor for smoother and more precise motion. It matters for projects such as robotics, gimbals, and haptics where quiet operation, low-speed control, or accurate torque control is important.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
PWM
Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
Torque
A twisting force that causes something to rotate, usually measured in newton-metres or kilogram-centimetres. It matters when choosing motors, servos, gears, and tools because higher torque is needed to lift heavier loads, turn larger wheels, or move mechanisms without stalling.
