This 1.2″ 8×8 LED Matrix features 64 bright white LEDs arranged in a square grid, perfect for building scrolling signs, simple animations, or small pixel displays. The compact package plugs directly into a breadboard with 0.1″ pin spacing — eight pins on each side.
The matrix requires 1:8 multiplex driving. A dedicated driver such as the MAX7219 handles all the multiplexing work, or you can use shift registers (74HC595 for anodes, TPIC6B595 for cathodes) for a more hands-on approach.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
