Lesson 8 · Weeks 13-14
Planning and managing
Learning intention
Plan production properly: sequence, timeline, milestones, materials, and the risks each process carries.
Success criteria
My milestones could be checked by someone else, and my risk assessment covers the tools I will actually use.
Before class
Have the school's own risk assessment template and SDS access ready. Use the real documents, not a facsimile.
Materials
Work plan and Gantt templates. Risk assessment template. Supplier pricing access.
Common misconceptions & fixes
Students write a risk assessment for a generic workshop rather than for their own project. A breadboard-only project should have a short one.
Evidence to collect
Work plan with Gantt and milestones; risk assessment using the hierarchy of control; priced materials list with lead times.
Support path
Provide a part-completed Gantt with the major phases already blocked out.
Extension path
Identify the single step most likely to delay you, and plan a mitigation.
Exit reflection
Which step are you least confident about, and what will you do if it takes twice as long?
