A diffused white LED backlight strip in a 3.5 mm thick acrylic enclosure. Normally found behind LCDs, this module uses a single white LED with a specially designed acrylic diffuser to provide near-uniform illumination across the entire surface. A reflector on the back directs all light forward for maximum brightness.
Drive it just like a standard LED at ~3 V / 20 mA. Mask with vinyl, draw over with marker, or use colour gels to customise the output. Much brighter than EL wire and requires no inverter — ideal for wearables and signage projects.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
