This short mini coax lead links U.FL-equipped RF submodules and other RF devices to carrier boards. At 50mm long, it is designed to be long enough to make the connection while staying tidy inside compact builds.
The 50-ohm impedance makes it well suited to almost all SparkFun RF products, including GPS, LoRa and RFID hardware. It is a handy cable for neat internal RF connections where a short U.FL-to-U.FL run is required.
Specifications:
- Connectors: U.FL to U.FL
- Length: 50mm
- Impedance: 50-ohm
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GPS
- The US satellite navigation system used by GNSS receivers to calculate position and time. Support for GPS is important because it is widely available and often used together with other constellations for more reliable positioning.
- Impedance
- Impedance is the total opposition a component or circuit presents to alternating current, measured in ohms, combining resistance with frequency-dependent reactance. It appears in many contexts, such as matching a speaker's impedance (for example 4 ohm or 8 ohm) to an amplifier or the input and output impedance of signal circuits, and a correct match helps avoid weak signals, distortion or damage.
- LoRa
- LoRa is a long-range, low-power wireless radio technology often used for telemetry, remote sensors and other links that send small amounts of data over long distances. It is distinct from Bluetooth and WiFi, so sharing a connector or pinout with LoRa hardware does not mean a device actually uses LoRa.
- RF
- RF means radio frequency, referring to signals used for wireless communication and other high-frequency electronics. A low-noise, stable power supply is important for RF circuits because power noise can affect signal quality and measurements.
- u.FL
- u.FL is a tiny snap-on antenna connector often used on compact wireless boards. A board with u.FL usually needs an external antenna, which matters if the product will be inside an enclosure or needs better antenna placement.
