This translucent snap-on enclosure is a simple way to make a bare PCB more durable, provided your board is designed to suit the case shape. It is aimed at custom PCB projects where a low-cost off-the-shelf case is more practical than a custom 3D printed or injection-moulded enclosure.
The case appears to suit USB to RS-485 style adaptors with a USB-A plug and terminal block connectors, though other connector layouts may work if they are smaller and fit within the available openings. The clear translucent plastic lets you see indicators such as LEDs, or potentially a small TFT or OLED on your board.
Two plastic pieces snap over the PCB to hold it in place. No boards, cables or accessories are included, and your PCB will need to be designed to the required shape for a snug fit.
Specifications:
- Diagram: Refer to the supplier diagram for the required PCB shape and fit.
This enclosure is suitable for protecting compatible custom designs from everyday handling, but it is not waterproof or weatherproof.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- OLED
- OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode, a display type where each pixel produces its own light. It matters because OLED screens are thin, high-contrast and easy to read for small status displays, but they can be more sensitive to image burn-in than some other display types.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- Terminal block
- A terminal block is a connector that joins wires together in a neat, removable, or serviceable way, usually clamping each wire under a screw or spring instead of soldering. It makes it easier to connect, change, or service wiring without permanent joints.
- TFT
- A thin-film transistor display is a common type of colour LCD used for graphics screens. Knowing a product is for TFTs helps you check that the driver board matches the display’s connector, resolution, backlight, and signalling method.
