The SparkFun Qwiic Shield for Thing Plus adds four Qwiic connectors (two horizontal, two vertical) to any Thing Plus or Adafruit Feather-format development board. It breaks out the I²C bus (GND, 3.3 V, SDA, SCL) to standard 1 mm pitch JST connectors for solderless daisy-chaining of Qwiic-compatible sensors and actuators.
The shield comes with one 12-pin and one 16-pin header. Both headers need to be soldered to the shield, and to your Thing Plus or Feather board if not already fitted.
Key Features
- 4× Qwiic Connectors – 2 horizontal + 2 vertical JST connectors
- Thing Plus / Feather Compatible – Fits both footprints (interchangeable)
- I²C Bus Breakout – GND, 3.3 V, SDA, SCL on all connectors
- Daisy-Chainable – Connect multiple Qwiic devices on different I²C addresses
- Polarised Connectors – Cannot be connected incorrectly
Package Contents
- 1× Qwiic Shield for Thing Plus
- 1× 12-pin header
- 1× 16-pin header
Ideal For
- Adding Qwiic connectivity to Thing Plus and Feather boards
- Rapid I²C sensor prototyping
- Daisy-chaining multiple Qwiic modules

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- breakout
- A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
- GND
- GND is the ground or reference connection (0 V) for a circuit. When connecting two devices together, their grounds must be joined so both agree on what counts as a low or high signal.
- Headers
- Rows of connector contacts on a fixed pitch (commonly 2.54 mm) used to link a board to a breadboard, jumper wires, or another board. They come as male pin headers and female socket headers; when a module ships with pre-soldered headers it can be used straight away, whereas bare pads require soldering the pins yourself.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- Shield
- An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
- Thing Plus
- Thing Plus is SparkFun’s development-board form factor with a small rectangular layout and connections suited to wireless and battery-powered projects. It matters because boards and accessories in the same form factor are easier to mount, wire, and swap between projects.
