SparkFun PWM Shield

SparkFun PWM Shield

Discontinued

The SparkFun PWM Shield adds 16 PWM output channels to your Arduino using the TLC5940 IC. All channels are broken out to standard 0.1" headers with convenient voltage and ground rails, making it easy to connect LEDs, servos, and other PWM-driven devices.

The TLC5940 supports daisy-chaining, so you can connect additional TLC5940 breakout boards to expand beyond 16 channels. Each 3-pin output header is spaced to accommodate standard servo connectors, and 2.2 kΩ pull-up resistors on every output ensure reliable servo operation. The Iref pin is set with a 2.2 kΩ resistor for 17.8 mA output current, with a parallel through-hole pad for adding a resistor to increase current if needed.

Key Features

  • 16 PWM Channels – TLC5940-based with 12-bit resolution
  • Daisy-Chainable – Connect additional TLC5940 breakouts for more channels
  • Servo-Ready Headers – 3-pin 0.1" headers with spacing for servo connectors
  • 2.2 kΩ Pull-Up Resistors – On each output for reliable servo and LED drive
  • Adjustable Output Current – Iref set to 17.8 mA with option to modify via parallel resistor
  • Arduino Shield Form Factor – Plugs directly onto Arduino Uno and compatible boards

Ideal For

  • Multi-channel LED displays and signboards
  • Multiple servo control systems
  • RGB and full-colour LED lighting
  • Display backlighting and animation
