The SparkFun Qwiic LPS28DFW Micro Absolute Digital Barometer offers a unique barometer breakout featuring the LPS28DFW from STMicroelectronics© in the Qwiic Micro form factor. The LPS28DFW is an absolute barometer with a water-resistant package making it perfect for pressure measurement applications where the sensor is exposed to or even submerged in water. The Qwiic system allows for integration into your I2C system with no soldering required. While the Micro size does not allow for a traditional 0.1"-spaced PTH header for communication, the board does route an interrupt and ground pin to a through-hole connection.

The sensor has two full-scale measurement ranges of 260 - 1260hPa and 260 - 4060hPa with an absolute pressure accuracy of 0.5hPa. The LPS28DFW is composed of a piezoresistive pressure sensor with a metal lid and gel encasing to protect the sensing elements from water and other environmental hazards.

Important! While the LPS28DFW is protected from water, the rest of the components on these breakouts are not protected by any conformal coating and can be damaged by exposure to liquids. Users who intend to use these breakouts in applications where the board may be exposed to water or other liquids should apply a conformal coating to the board or placed it in a sealed container prior to use.

The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System is an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields and cables that make prototyping faster and less prone to error. All Qwiic-enabled boards use a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This reduces the amount of required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you can’t hook it up wrong.

Qwiic Micro is our smallest I2C-supported board form-factor yet! At only 0.75in. by 0.30in. (or 24.65mm by 7.62mm for metric friends), Qwiic Micro is perfect for projects and applications that have space or weight concerns. With just a single Qwiic connector, Micro boards work great alongside the Qwiic Multiport or at the end of a Qwiic daisy chain.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
Daisy chain
A wiring layout where devices are connected one after another in a line. It matters because long or awkward chains can make projects messy or less convenient, while a hub lets several devices branch out from one point.
FIFO
FIFO stands for “first in, first out” and is a small memory buffer inside the sensor that stores recent readings in order. This matters because it can help capture motion data without the microcontroller needing to read the sensor every single instant.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
PTH
Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
