The SparkFun BabyBuck Regulator Breakout delivers a regulated 5V output from a 6–32V input in an ultra-compact 0.63" × 0.52" form factor. Based on the AP63357 synchronous buck converter from Diodes Inc., it provides up to 3.5A continuous output with high efficiency, integrated MOSFETs, and comprehensive protection circuitry.
With just four PTH pins (VIN, GND, VOUT, EN), the board is easy to integrate into any project. The enable pin supports up to 32V for direct battery-level control, and a copper pad on the back accommodates a heat sink for sustained high-current operation.
Key Features
- Regulated 5V Output – From 6V to 32V input range
- Up to 3.5A Output – 3A recommended without active cooling
- Ultra-Compact – 0.63" × 0.52" PCB with 0.1" spaced PTH pins
- High Efficiency – Up to 86% at 5 mA light load (PFM mode)
- 22 µA Quiescent Current – Excellent for battery-powered applications
- Enable Pin – High-voltage EN rated up to 32V with precision UVLO threshold
- Heat Sink Pad – 0.5" × 0.6" plated copper pad on the back
- 450 kHz Switching Frequency – With frequency spread spectrum for EMI reduction
Pin Configuration
- VIN – Power input (6V to 32V)
- GND – Common ground
- VOUT – Regulated 5V output
- EN – Enable (pull high to enable output)
Protection
- Undervoltage lockout (UVLO)
- Output undervoltage protection (UVP)
- Cycle-by-cycle peak current limit
- Thermal shutdown
Ideal For
- Battery-powered projects needing regulated 5V
- Automotive and solar panel voltage regulation
- Compact embedded systems
- Raspberry Pi and microcontroller power supplies

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- breakout
- A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
- Buck converter
- A power circuit that reduces a higher DC voltage to a lower DC voltage. It is useful when your supply voltage is too high for a module or microcontroller and you want less heat and better efficiency than a simple linear regulator.
- GND
- GND is the ground or reference connection (0 V) for a circuit. When connecting two devices together, their grounds must be joined so both agree on what counts as a low or high signal.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- PTH
- Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
