This desoldering wick is a pre-fluxed copper braid for removing solder from joints, fixing excess solder, and cleaning up solder bridges. It is a handy bench consumable for rework, repairs, and swapping components on PCBs.
To use it, place the braid over the solder joint and apply your soldering iron. As the solder reaches melting point, the flux activates and the braided copper draws molten solder up through capillary action.
This is size #4 Light Blue wick, supplied on a spool with no-clean flux.
Specifications:
- Braid Diameter: 0.098" (2.5mm)
- Length: 5 feet
- Flux Type: No-Clean
- Flux Classification: ROL0
- Packaging: Spool
Useful for through-hole and SMD rework, especially when paired with a suitable soldering iron and basic soldering tools.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- SMD
- SMD means surface-mount device, a component style designed to be soldered directly onto the surface of a circuit board rather than through holes. SMD parts are compact and mounted flat on the board, which suits smaller and mass-produced designs.
- through-hole
- A mounting style where the component leads pass through holes in a circuit board and are soldered on the other side. Through-hole parts are often easier to handle and solder by hand, which is useful for classroom and hobby projects.
