The APA-104-1010 is a tiny addressable RGB SMD LED for designs where full-colour control needs to fit into very little board space. Each LED uses a standard one-wire data interface with data in and data out connections.
At just 1.0 x 1.0mm square, these microscopic LEDs are suited to dense layouts, wearables, miniature indicators and other compact lighting projects. They work well with the FastLED library and are compatible with other NeoPixel-compatible products.
This pack is supplied as a strip of 20 pieces, sealed with desiccant and a humidity indicator so the LEDs are ready for reflow. Documentation available from the supplier includes the APA-104-1010 datasheet, an example KiCad layout and example code.
Features:
- Addressable RGB: individually controllable colour LEDs
- One-wire interface: standard DI/DO data connection
- Library support: works great with the FastLED library
- NeoPixel compatibility: compatible with other NeoPixel-compatible products
- Reflow ready: supplied sealed with desiccant and a humidity indicator

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- NeoPixel
- A type of addressable LED system where colour data is sent along a single digital data line from one LED or controller to the next. Compatibility matters because the timing and signal format must match for the lights or driver board to respond correctly.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
