Add a slim, flexible line of ice blue light to props, miniatures and maker projects with this LED filament from Adafruit's nOOds range. It is made from dozens of micro LEDs bonded to an ultra-flexible metal backing and protected with colourful silicone.
These filaments are commonly used for Edison-style decorative bulbs, hearts, stars, dioramas, dollhouses and other miniature lighting effects. Because the LEDs are wired in parallel, the filament lights from 3V and behaves like a long LED, making it easy to PWM dim from a microcontroller or driver circuit.
Unlike classic nOOds, this single-ended version has both contacts at one end. Connect 3V to the contacts, using a current-limiting resistor to keep the current to a maximum of 50mA; the anode is the metal end with the little hole.
Features:
- Flexible LED filament: bends into shapes for decorative lighting effects.
- Micro LED construction: dozens of micro LED diodes bonded to an ultra-flexible metal backing.
- Silicone coated: colourful silicone coating provides protection.
- 3V operation: LEDs are in parallel, so only 3V is needed to light the filament.
- PWM dimmable: works like a long LED, so it can be PWM dimmed easily.
- Single-ended contacts: both contacts are located at one end.
- Miniature lighting: suited to miniature sets, dioramas, dollhouses and mini-verses.
Specifications:
- Length: 128mm
- Colour: Ice Blue
- Operating voltage: 3V
- Recommended maximum current: 50mA
- Contacts: Both contacts at one end
- Anode identification: Metal end with a little hole in it
- Pack quantity: One per pack
A handy choice when you want an EL-wire-like glow in a smaller, LED-based format for wearables, models, signage or compact decorative builds.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
- PWM
- Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
