Add red, green and blue indication to your project with this 5 mm through-hole RGB LED. It uses a clear lens and has four pins: one pin for each colour channel and a shared common cathode.
The longest pin is the common cathode, making it straightforward to identify during assembly. You can use the LED as three separate status indicators, or drive the colour channels with PWM to mix colours.
A manufacturer datasheet is available for deeper electrical and mechanical reference when designing it into your circuit.
Specifications:
- Forward Voltage (RGB): (2.0, 3.2, 3.1)V
- Light Intensity (RGB): (700, 1200, 1400)mcd
Ideal for breadboard prototypes, panels, indicators and simple lighting effects where a compact RGB through-hole LED is needed.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- PWM
- Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
