This through-hole resistor is a handy staple for breadboards, perfboards and general electronics prototyping. It is supplied as a single 18 kOhm metal film resistor with 1/4 watt power rating.
The axial PTH format makes it easy to plug into standard solderless breadboards or solder into prototyping boards. SparkFun has selected a more breadboard-friendly lead thickness compared with their previous version.
Use it for pull-ups, pull-downs, voltage dividers, current limiting and other everyday circuit-building tasks where an 18 kOhm resistor is required.
Features:
- Through-hole format: Suitable for breadboards and perfboards.
- Breadboard-friendly leads: Lead thickness has been updated to be a bit thicker than the previous version.
- Flame retardant coating: Flame Retardant Coating.
- Sold as singles: Supplied one resistor at a time.
Specifications:
- Resistance: 18 kOhms
- Tolerance: ±1%
- Power (Watts): 0.25W, 1/4W
- Composition: Metal Film
- Flame Retardant Coating: Flame Retardant Coating
- Temperature Coefficient: ±50ppm/°C
- Operating Temperature: -55°C ~ 155°C
- Number of Terminals: 2
- Part #: RNMF14FTC18K0
A useful bench part for makers, students and electronics repair work where a precise 18 kOhm through-hole resistor is needed.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- Axial
- Axial components have one lead coming out of each end, so they lie flat or span holes on a circuit board or breadboard. This matters when checking whether the resistor will physically fit your prototyping or through-board assembly method.
- PTH
- Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
- Tolerance
- Tolerance tells you how far the real resistance value may be from the printed value. A 1% resistor is useful when a circuit needs more predictable behaviour than a looser 5% or 10% part.
- UPS
- An uninterruptible power supply is a battery-backed power system that keeps a device running when external power is unplugged or fails. For an embedded computer, it helps prevent sudden shutdowns that can corrupt files or interrupt a project.
