The RV-1805-C3 is an ultra-low-power real-time clock module built for efficient, reliable timekeeping in battery-powered electronics. It integrates the crystal (XTAL) directly into a hermetically sealed ceramic package, removing the need for external clock tuning.

With a maximum timekeeping current of just 0.08µA (80nA), it is well suited to long-life designs where every nanoamp matters. Communication is via a standard I2C, 2-wire serial interface for straightforward integration with microcontrollers.

The module also includes useful internal functions such as a backup battery trickle charger, watchdog timer and 256 bytes of user RAM, making it a compact timing solution for embedded and remote applications.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

2-wire serial interface
A 2-wire serial interface sends data over just a couple of signal wires, typically a clock line and a data line. It lets a device be controlled with only a few microcontroller pins, leaving the rest free for other parts; common examples include I2C and similar clock-plus-data protocols.
I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
RAM
RAM (random-access memory) is fast, temporary memory a device uses for working data while it is running; in its common volatile form, its contents are lost when power is removed. Some devices offer a mode that applies settings to RAM only, which is handy for testing changes temporarily because they are not stored permanently and disappear at power-off.
