A 2×20 shrouded (boxed) header designed to match the Raspberry Pi GPIO pinout. It provides a keyed, polarised connection point so you can run a ribbon cable from your Pi's GPIO to a breakout board, HAT prototype, or custom PCB without the risk of plugging in backwards.
The through-hole header has 40 pins on a standard 2.54 mm (0.1″) pitch and is compatible with all 40-pin Raspberry Pi models (Pi 2, 3, 4, 5, and Zero).
Key Features
- 2×20 Pin Layout – Matches the Raspberry Pi 40-pin GPIO header
- Shrouded & Keyed – Polarised connector prevents reverse insertion
- 2.54 mm (0.1″) Pitch – Standard breadboard and perfboard spacing
- Through-Hole – Solderable to custom PCBs and breakout boards
Ideal For
- Raspberry Pi breakout and prototyping boards
- Ribbon cable connections to GPIO
- Custom HAT and add-on board designs
Package Contents
- 1× 2×20 Shrouded Header

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- breakout
- A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
- GPIO
- General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- Polarised connector
- A connector shaped so it is intended to plug in only one way around. This helps prevent reversed wiring, which can stop a circuit from working or damage parts.
- through-hole
- A mounting style where the component leads pass through holes in a circuit board and are soldered on the other side. Through-hole parts are often easier to handle and solder by hand, which is useful for classroom and hobby projects.
