A surface-mount 4-pin JST connector in a vertical orientation, designed for the SparkFun Qwiic I2C ecosystem. This 1 mm pitch connector is used on all Qwiic-compatible boards and lets you build your own I2C devices that integrate seamlessly with the Qwiic system.
The vertical mount profile is ideal for tight spaces where a right-angle connector won't fit. Polarised connections prevent incorrect wiring, and the connector provides a secure lock with all standard Qwiic cables.
Key Features
- Qwiic Compatible – Standard 1 mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector used across the Qwiic ecosystem
- Vertical SMD Mount – Low-profile vertical orientation for compact PCB layouts
- Polarised Connection – Keyed connector prevents reversed wiring
- Secure Locking – Positive lock mates reliably with all Qwiic cables
Ideal For
- Custom Qwiic-compatible PCB designs
- Adding I2C connectivity to DIY projects
- Compact builds where vertical cable routing is needed
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- SMD
- SMD means surface-mount device, a component style designed to be soldered directly onto the surface of a circuit board rather than through holes. SMD parts are compact and mounted flat on the board, which suits smaller and mass-produced designs.
