The Pycom Pysense is a sensor-packed expansion shield that fits all Pycom multi-network modules — including the WiPy, SiPy, and LoPy. It gives you a head start on IoT projects by combining five sensors, a LiPo charger, micro-SD card slot, and USB serial access in one compact board.

With ultra-low power deep sleep under 1 µA, it's ideal for battery-powered deployments. Use it with the Pybytes cloud platform to gather, organise, and display your sensor data for free.

Key Features

  • Ambient Light Sensor – Measure surrounding light levels
  • Barometric Pressure Sensor – Atmospheric pressure and altitude estimation
  • Humidity Sensor – Relative humidity measurement
  • Temperature Sensor – Environmental temperature readings
  • 3-Axis 12-bit Accelerometer – Motion and orientation detection
  • LiPo Battery Charger – On-board charging for portable deployments
  • Micro-SD Card Slot – Local data logging
  • USB Serial – Programming and debugging via USB
  • Ultra-Low Power – ~1 µA in deep sleep mode

Specifications

  • Compatibility – All Pycom modules (WiPy, SiPy, LoPy, GPy, FiPy)
  • Deep Sleep Current – ~1 µA
  • Dimensions – 55 × 35 × 10 mm
  • Weight – 11 g
Note: Pycom module (WiPy, LoPy, etc.) is not included — sold separately.

Ideal For

  • Environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, pressure, light)
  • Battery-powered IoT sensor nodes
  • Rapid prototyping with Pycom modules
  • Cloud-connected data logging with Pybytes

Package Contents

  • 1× Pycom Pysense Sensor Shield

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

Ambient light sensor
A sensor that measures the general brightness of light falling on it, similar to how a device can adjust screen brightness automatically. It matters when you want a project to react to room lighting, daylight, shadows, or covered/uncovered conditions.
deep sleep
Deep sleep is a low-power mode where the microcontroller turns off most functions while keeping just enough circuitry active to wake up later. It is important for battery-powered projects because it can greatly extend how long the device runs between charges.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
LiPo
A lithium polymer rechargeable battery commonly used in portable electronics projects. It matters because LiPo batteries need correct charging circuitry and care, and this board includes hardware intended for that battery type.
Shield
An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
