The PICAXE 8 Pin Proto Kit is a beginner-friendly kit for getting started with 8-pin PICAXE microcontrollers. It includes a handful of easy-to-solder through-hole components and a proto board, making it an ideal first project for learning microcontroller basics.
The kit includes a battery snap for power, but the board must only be driven at 4.5–5 V. A 3×AA battery pack is recommended instead of a 9 V battery to prevent damage to the board.
Key Features
- Beginner-Friendly – Through-hole components are easy to solder, no surface-mount work required
- PICAXE Compatible – Designed for 8-pin PICAXE microcontrollers (sold separately)
- Proto Board Layout – Simple PCB layout for learning and experimentation
- Battery Powered – Runs on 4.5–5 V via the included battery snap
Ideal For
- Beginners learning to solder and program microcontrollers
- PICAXE microcontroller projects
- Educational electronics workshops
Resources
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
