The PiBreak from Freetronics is a prototyping board for the Raspberry Pi, providing labelled breakout pins for all GPIOs, a large solder-pad prototyping area, and GND and 3.3 V power rails for easy connections.

Compatible with Raspberry Pi models that have a 26-pin expansion header, including the original Model A and Model B.

Note: This board will physically fit on newer Raspberry Pi models with a 40-pin header (A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, etc.), but it only connects to the first 26 pins. For full 40-pin breakout, see the PiBreak Plus.

Key Features

  • Gold-Plated PCB (ENIG) – Durable, corrosion-resistant finish
  • Large Prototyping Area – Solder pads for placing your own components
  • Labelled GPIO Breakout – All 26 pins broken out and clearly marked
  • Power Rails – GND and 3.3 V rails for easy power distribution
  • Dual-Side Pinout Markings – Pin labels on both top and bottom of the board
  • Mounting Hardware Included – Nut, bolt, and spacer for secure attachment

Ideal For

  • Prototyping circuits with the Raspberry Pi
  • Connecting sensors and components to GPIO pins
  • Learning electronics with the Raspberry Pi platform

Package Contents

  • 1× PiBreak prototyping board
  • 1× Nut, bolt, and spacer

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
GND
GND is the ground or reference connection (0 V) for a circuit. When connecting two devices together, their grounds must be joined so both agree on what counts as a low or high signal.
GPIO
General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
PCB
A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
