Introduction

The global shutter camera module features the OV9281 photosensitive chip with a 3μm x 3μm pixel size and OmniPixel3-GS™ technology. Unlike rolling shutter cameras, which capture images line by line and may suffer from motion distortion, this module's global shutter technology ensures all pixels are exposed simultaneously. This eliminates motion blur and distortion, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving objects with clarity. With a resolution of 1280×800 and 1 million pixels, it delivers high-quality images even in low-light conditions, making it suitable for night monitoring and indoor shooting. The module’s compact design includes two FPC cables for seamless integration with Raspberry Pi single-board computers, ensuring quick and hassle-free setup.

Key Features

Motion Clarity with Global Shutter

The global shutter technology enables sharp, distortion-free image capture of fast-moving objects, such as spinning fan blades, overcoming the "jelly effect" associated with rolling shutters. This makes it ideal for high-speed motion applications.

High-Resolution Imaging in Low Light

With a 3μm x 3μm pixel size and global shutter technology, the camera excels in low-light environments. The fixed-focus lens, f/2.0 aperture, and integrated infrared filter enhance image clarity, making it well-suited for night surveillance and indoor monitoring.

Seamless Raspberry Pi Integration

The module includes two FPC cables for easy connection to Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5, eliminating the need for additional accessories. The MIPI-CSI-2Lane interface ensures high-speed data transmission, making it suitable for real-time applications.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

FPC
FPC stands for flexible printed circuit, a thin flat flexible cable or connector style often used where space is tight or some movement is needed, commonly for displays, cameras and other high-density connections. Connecting to an FPC connector generally needs a matching cable with the correct pin count, pitch and contact orientation.
MIPI
MIPI is a high-speed display and camera interface often used inside phones, tablets, and embedded devices. It matters because raw MIPI displays usually need special driver hardware or software support, unlike plug-and-play HDMI screens.
MIPI-CSI
A camera interface used on many embedded computer boards to connect compact camera modules directly to the processor. It matters for vision projects because it can handle high-resolution camera data with less overhead than a USB camera.
Motion detection
The ability to sense that something has moved, either by comparing successive camera frames or by using a dedicated sensor such as a PIR (infrared) or radar module. When a product lists motion detection, movement can be used as a trigger so a system only acts or records when there is activity rather than running continuously.
PCB
A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
