This compact USB camera module is built around a 1/4-inch OV5648 CMOS sensor for 5MP embedded imaging. It captures stills and video up to 2592×1944 resolution, making it suitable for computer vision prototypes, robotics, AI edge projects, smart monitoring and document capture.
Autofocus adjusts from 30 cm to infinity, helping keep subjects sharp when distances change. The module supports both MJPEG and YUY2 output formats, so it can be used for smoother streaming or uncompressed image data in vision processing pipelines.
UVC-compliant USB2.0 connectivity means it can work driver-free with major operating systems including Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It connects to PCs, laptops and single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson and the RDK X3 ROS2 AI Board.
The package includes the OV5648 USB 5MP Camera Module and a 0.5 m USB cable. Documentation is provided via GitHub.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- dynamic range
- Dynamic range describes how wide a span of values a sensor can measure, from very low to very high. For a light sensor, a wide dynamic range means it can work in dim indoor settings as well as bright sunlight without changing hardware.
- lux
- Lux is the standard unit for measuring how much light falls on a surface, similar to how a light meter reports brightness. A sensor that outputs lux gives readings that are easier to compare between rooms, outdoor conditions, and different projects.
- UVC
- UVC is a short-wavelength, high-energy band of ultraviolet light often used in germicidal lamps and curing applications. A separate UVC reading matters if your project needs to monitor or verify UVC sources rather than just detect general UV light.
