Ohbot is a robot head with a face that moves. Eight motors drive the eyes, eyelids, brows, mouth, head turn and nod, so a program can make it look surprised, glance at you, or speak a line with its mouth in sync.
This is the kit version: it arrives as parts with illustrated step-by-step assembly instructions, so the build itself is the first project. Rated for ages seven and up, though younger builders will want an adult alongside for the fiddly servo work.
Programming it
- OhbotApp2 block programming on Windows, including GPT blocks that work without your own OpenAI account (subject to fair use limits)
- Python library for Raspberry Pi, Windows, macOS and Unix
- Scratch in a browser, which covers Chromebook classrooms
About the subscription: one OhbotApp2 licence per robot is included and runs for one year from activation. After that the Windows app needs renewing. The Python library and the Scratch site stay free to use, so the robot keeps working either way. Includes a USB cable.

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- servo
- A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
