The Neutis Development Kit from Emlid is a quad-core system-on-module (SoM) development platform based on the Neutis N5 module. It runs a Yocto-based Linux BSP with an up-to-date kernel, powered by a 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and ARM Mali450 MP2 GPU.

The development board provides easy access to the N5 module's features, adding a MicroSD slot, Ethernet port, USB connectors, and breakout headers. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an ATECC508A secure element make it suitable for connected and security-conscious applications.

Key Features

  • Neutis N5 SoM – Quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU
  • ARM Mali450 MP2 GPU – Hardware graphics acceleration
  • 512 MB RAM – DDR3 system memory
  • 8 GB eMMC Storage – Onboard flash storage
  • MicroSD Slot – Expandable storage on the dev board
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n – Built-in antenna
  • Bluetooth 4.0 – Dual-mode with BLE
  • Ethernet Port – Wired network connectivity
  • USB Connectors – Host and device interfaces
  • ATECC508A Secure Element – Cryptographic key storage, unique IDs, FIPS random number generation
  • Yocto Linux BSP – Up-to-date kernel with build system support

Ideal For

  • IoT and connected device prototyping
  • Embedded Linux development
  • Security-focused applications with hardware crypto
  • SoM evaluation and carrier board design

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

Arm Cortex-A53
A 64-bit Arm processor core commonly used in Linux-capable embedded boards. It matters because it is suited to higher-level computing tasks such as networking, graphics, and running multiple applications.
BLE
BLE stands for Bluetooth Low Energy, a Bluetooth mode designed for lower power use and modern phone compatibility. It matters because BLE support can make the module easier to use with Apple devices and battery-powered projects, though it may behave differently from classic serial Bluetooth.
breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
eMMC
Embedded MultiMediaCard is built-in flash storage soldered onto a board, similar in purpose to an SD card but integrated. It matters because it holds the operating system and files without needing a separate memory card.
Headers
Rows of metal pins used to plug a module into a breadboard or connect it with jumper wires. Pre-soldered headers make the module easier to use straight away without needing to solder the pins yourself.
IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
RAM
RAM is temporary memory used while a device is running, and its contents are lost when power is removed. A “Run in RAM” mode is useful for testing settings without permanently programming the module, but it may not support every feature.
System-on-module
A small computer module that contains the main processor, memory and core electronics, but needs a carrier board to provide connectors and power. This matters because this product is only the base board; a compatible Jetson module must be added before it can run projects.
