This miniature 8×8 LED matrix packs 64 bright blue LEDs into a compact 0.8" square package. With 16 pins (8 per side) at standard 0.1" spacing, it plugs directly into a breadboard with plenty of room for wiring.
The matrix requires 1:8 multiplexed control — either use shift registers (such as a 74HC595 for anodes and TPIC6B595 for cathodes) or a dedicated LED driver like the MAX7219 which handles all the multiplexing for you.
Key Features
- 64 Blue LEDs – 8×8 matrix configuration
- Compact Size – 0.8" square form factor

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- LED driver
- An LED driver is a control chip or circuit that supplies and switches power to LEDs. For a display board, it reduces the number of microcontroller pins needed and handles tasks like lighting the right segments and adjusting brightness.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
