This adapter cable converts a 5.5mm/2.1mm DC barrel jack power supply to a Micro USB plug, allowing you to power Micro USB devices from a standard barrel jack power adapter. The barrel jack end is centre-positive polarity.

It works great for powering Arduinos, BeagleBones, Raspberry Pis, Android devices, and most other USB-powered gadgets from a 5V barrel jack supply. Since there are no resistors on the data lines, it won't work for charging devices that require D+/D− resistance (such as iPhones or iPads).

Specifications

  • Input: 5.5mm/2.1mm DC barrel jack (centre positive)
  • Output: Micro USB plug
  • Type: Power only (no data line resistors)

Ideal For

  • Powering Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and BeagleBone from barrel jack supplies
  • Connecting 5V DC adapters to Micro USB devices
  • Workbench and project power setups
Warning: There is no voltage regulator or protection in this adapter. Connecting a 9V or 12V power supply could destroy devices expecting 5V. Always use a 5V power supply.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

DC barrel jack
A round power connector commonly used for low-voltage DC power supplies, often described by its outer and inner diameters such as 5.5 x 2.1 mm. Matching the barrel size and polarity is important so the plug physically fits and powers the device correctly.
